Why we design rooms around the hour you will spend in them.
Before we draw a plan, we ask when you will be in each room. Breakfast, a long afternoon of reading, the hour before sleep. The answers decide where the windows go long before they decide what the house looks like.
Light has weight in a room. Low winter sun lies across a floor and makes it feel warm; high summer light falls straight down and makes a space feel taller. We model both for every project, month by month, before anything is fixed.
The result is rarely dramatic. It is a kitchen that is bright at seven, a study that never glares, a bedroom that darkens on its own. People notice it a year later, when they realise they have stopped reaching for the light switch.
